Indy Comic Book Week | December 30, 2009

This week the main comic distributor Diamond Comics is taking the week off, and the only new mainstream comic books hitting the racks are Blackest Night #6 and some Marvel freebies like Origins of Siege.

But here at Mission: comics & Art, we'll have new indy comics! I'll be spotlighting a bunch of locally self-published comics, as well as a bunch of new arrivals such as Sarah Oleksyk's excellent comic Ivy and Andy Hartzell's Monday.

As for the mainstream books, the entire rack of comics (non-indy) for one day only will be on sale for 50%!!! That's right 50% off! ONE DAY ONLY! WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 30th!

So come by to check out something that you might not regularly pick-up, maybe an indy self-published comic, or maybe a series that you've been on the fence about. Either way, it's going to be a great day to try something new.

"Dirty Martini and the Birth of the Space Program" might be my favorite so far. It's a portrait of someone dear to me and I put a lot of time trying to capture her energy. I submitted it to a "Call for Entries" for an art show aboard the International Space Station, and it got in! The artwork was part of a small group show that was taken up October 2008 as part of space-entrepreneur, Richard Garriot's mission to the ISS. So crazy to have my art in orbit.
