Ready to Lease

Saturday I met with the owners of 1043 Valencia, two friendly Irish brothers who have been building in San Francisco for years. With a fair bit of haggling, a good talk over beers at the delicious Aslam's Rasoi, and a bit more friendlier haggling, we struck a hand-shake deal.

So next up is all the paperwork, a "Letter of Intent", and then a signed lease. Hopefully none of that will take to long, and I can take possession of the space in the near future. Then the REAL work begins! Thankfully I've gotten everything planned out pretty well, and the surprises will me minimal. Finger crosses!

“I think it’s a good moment to open a gallery,” says Jens Hoffmann

An excellent write-up of the current young gallery scene in the Mission:

A young gallerist with international ambitions, the story goes, is doomed in San Francisco. The artists don’t struggle. The collectors are in hiding. The counterculture associations won’t die. But that was then. Now, the risk takers are here.
